East 2 West Movement (Hunting)_CA

According to recent studies I believe Deer travel East to West. Not only for migration, but as a general unwritten rule. Today I will cover a major impact in hunting deer in Ca from 1991-1994. As a result of this impact several game large and small were forced to relocate habitat. As for Deer, I will breakdown a pattern using the East to West theory.

In 1991 x5a consisted of periods 1 & 2 were deleted. Causing a zone change to only x5a with an all time low of only 29 harvested buck. Moving East to zone x3a, in 1992 a dramatic increase to 301 harvested buck, considering x3a averaged around 100 Deer per season prior to 1992. Then in 1993 again a major drop occured only ending in a total of 173 harvested buck with an average of 120 over the next 10 years. Again, moving East to x4 in 1992 a significant increase upwards to 239 harvested buck, with a major down fall of 117,54,47 over the next three years. x11 (became c4 in 1994) had a total of 857 harvested buck & 712 in 1992. From 1994 to present time c4 (x11 prior to 1994) averaged around the mid 400's again causing a more eastward movement. d2b (became c3 in 1994) had a continuous rise from 1991-1993 bringing in 1991/307, 1992/353, & 1993/389. Last and final movement resides in zone b2 with a 1861 buck harvest in 1991 & 2238 in 1992. With a consistant rise in numbers moving East to West from 1991-1994 along with change in environment and population, Deer will continue to rise in specific areas based on environmental change.

Although it may seem to hunters as though Deer hunting in Ca is on the downfall,WRONG. I point out the years 1991-1994 beacause, since then numbers in specific zones have been on a consistant rise. Although this pattern is slow, it is still on the rise. Obviously due to many changes in climate, weather and population through housing development, the areas where'upon' the annual Deer harvest will grow, will continue to change. I will consistantly follow Deer patterns focusing on zones A-north, B1&2, C4, D3&5. Look for future field reports consisting on valid information pertaining to these zones. Including but not limited to migration patterns specific to each zone, feeding habits, as well as significant population increase and much more. I will also provide annual harvest numbers and percentages with specific ratios in regard to specific harvest. i.e. 50% fork, 20% 3pt, 25% 4pt, 5% >4pt.
